Challenge Accepted!! SUO #211 Delightfully die cut

Hello and Welcome to SUO Challenges!!!

This time we are focussing on die cutting for our challenge - and with the amazing array of Stampin' Up! dies, the choices are absolutely unlimited!!!!

I have a dear friend who challenged me to create a Christmas Nativity Crib out of paper.... and so this became my project to add to the challenge for SUO - Delightfully die Cut.

This dies I've used are:  Bunch of Banners Framelits; Everyday Jars Framelits; Starlight Thinlits; Stained Glass Thinlits; Stitched Shapes Framelits;  Up & Away Thinlits; and Wood Crate Thinlits.

My starting point was the Stained Glass windows and the Wood Crate for the manger.  This was the easy part!!   The next challenge was to create the figures of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.  I've used the smallest hot air balloon for the faces, and the inside jar piece from Everyday Jar Framelits for the shoulders and torso of both my figures.  Baby Jesus' body is actually the smallest Stitched Shapes oval framelit.

To enable Mary and Joseph to stand, I created a fold in the base of each figurine.  The strip of cardstock was 2cm x 21cm scored at 10, 12, 14, 20cm. The strip attaches to the back of the torso and then folds back onto itself with the last score line.   Their robes are a strip of DSP 2" x 8" folded in half, punched with a 1/2" circle punch for the neck and then cut up the middle front.  I've tied some twine around the middles to give them a bit more body.  They are VERY skinny figures!!!

Their hair has been punched from Early Espresso using  the Fox Builder punch - Mary's hair uses 2 tails and the cheek piece and Joseph's uses 2 head pieces -  the ears for the fringe and the back of his hair.  I couldn't figure out the beard, so he's a young Joseph!!

To create baby Jesus' wrap I've used 3 punched starburst in a triangle shape.  The stable walls were created using 3 sheets of the awesome Wood Textures DSP attached with Soft Suede hinges so they fold together to create the shape of the Nativity.  I've also added rafters at the top to stabilise the walls together.  They are anchored with a faceted dot on each side of where the rafter sits on the top of the wall.  I've tried to create this so that I can fold it up to transport it to events easily.

This really was a challenge!  But we don't expect you to create such a detailed project to enter into our challenge with us!!  So grab your favourite dies and show them off in your project!!  Make sure you see all the amazing projects from the whole design team and then add your projects to our lineup on the link in our blog.

Until Next Time,
Happy Stamping,
Love Julia  x
